We tried to open Dell Wireless utility but the message was “Wireless adapter is disabled”. But while checking on Device Manager the device status is “Device is working properly”. So the possible issue might be the Wireless Zero Configuration may be disabled. We went to services and our guess was correct. We don’t know what happen but the Wireless Zero Configuration is stopped. I pressed the button and the comedy starts now.
Service cannot be started Error 1747 : The Authentication Service is Unknown.
I am going to explain the possible troubleshooting steps for the error rather than continuing the story.
Troubleshooting steps
1. Check Firewall settings and Wireless Button
Some false settings on the Firewall installed on your computer may prevent you from accessing Internet. So for troubleshooting purpose we need to disable it. The Wireless button should be on.
2. Make sure that the services run with full permissions
To verify this follow the registry path and make sure your current user has full permissions.
i. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
3. Try Windows Socket reset
To do this type the following command on dos prompt and press enter.
netsh winsock reset
To go with advanced Windows Socket permissions follow the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinSock2
Right click on the registry entry and click on permissions. Make sure that Winsock and Winsock2 has full permissions.
4. Restart your computer and it is better run a clean boot
In clean boot check if any third party software is causing the issue or not. If any third party is causing the issue try system restore to a date before the date when that particular software installed.
5. Do System Restore to a day when the wireless was working(Before the error 1747)
If still the issue persists we need to perform the final parts of solutions.
6. Perform Windows Updation on your computer
If you are using Windows Vista on your computer ,upgrade it to Windows Vista SP1. Even if the issue persist we need to reinstall the OS on your computer. So the last resort is:
7. Reinstall Windows Vista on your computer.
